An Outdoor Family Guide to Rocky Mountain National Park
Published in Paperback by Mountaineers Books (June, 2003)
Authors: Lisa Gollin Rocky Mountain National Park Evans and Paula Thurman
Average review score:

An excellent guide to Rocky Mountain National Park
Our family used this guide to prepare for our vacation. It is loaded with detailed information on dozens of locations in the Park. It's all presented in an easy to follow format with hikes grouped by location. If I had one gripe, it would be that there's *too* much information - my head was swimming after reading through it all, and I needed help narrowing the choices down. There's basic information on fishing, horseback riding and other activities as well. It's an excellent guide to the area that would serve you well on multiple trips.

Excellent guide for seeing the park, especially for families
We completed a trip to Rocky Mountain National Park with two children and found this book to be an invaluable guide. It provides an overview of the park and descriptions of 56 separate hikes. It has very clear directions on how to find the starting points for each trail as well as information on the difficulty and distance of the trail. The book also includes a lot of terrific information and ideas about hiking and camping with children. We found everything at the park to be as described in this book. We highly recommend it to anyone visiting Rocky Mountain National Park espcecially those travelling with children.

An owl on every post
Published in Unknown Binding by P. Davies ()
Author: Sanora Babb
Average review score:

An exquisite, moving memoir.
"An Owl on Every Post" has been my favorite book for thirty years, since the day I randomly perused it at a small local bookstore. I couldn't stop reading it. I was 14 years old. The authentic, straightforward account of a young girl's hard, yet magical, life on the plains sang to me as an adolescent and again years later when I read it aloud to my six year old daughter. It immediately became, and remains, one of her favorite books as well. She is twelve now and we are once again revisiting the Colorado territory. I guarantee you'll find something new and wonderful in this book no matter how many times you read it. Though it is written in a straightforward, unsentimental style you'll find yourself moved to tears, laughing aloud, staring wide-eyed with anticipation and fear, and experiencing monumental awe and wonder.

A must-read book that captures the essence of the frontier
_An Owl on Every Post_ is a must-read book that captures the essence of life on the Great Plains in the early twentieth century. When the Babb family moved to rural eastern Colorado from a small town in Oklahoma, they couldn't have realized that they would lose nearly everything they had in the process. Babb relates her family's story from a child's eye perspective, and does so with enormous sensitivity and clarity. Hers is a moving story, beautifully told.

Perfect Times, Perfect Places

Author: Robert Adams
Average review score:

Insightful photography of the western prairie
Robert Adams' photographs are testimony to his continued sensitivity to the West and the hopes for what is POSSIBLE. Adams is one of the most influential photographers of the late 20th century and all photographers concerned about their own environment can learn from him.

This photo collection is a pleasure to see.
The photographs in this publication are a departure from Robert Adams' more sobering work. This book celebrates the simple joy of spending time outside, looking and exploring, and it just might incite spring fever in you.

Places Around the Bases: A Historic Tour of the Coors Field Neighbor

Places Around the Bases: A Historic Tour of Coors Field
Terrific Book! "Places Around the Bases" does a great job in relating Coors Field to its setting wihtin LoDo Denver. It enhances the experience of attending a Rockies home game by extending the experience to the neighboring historic district. This book helpes make walking through LoDo streets on the way to Coors Field as enjoyable a part of going to a Rockies Game as the game itself.

Places around the Temple in Denver.
I'm Norwegian, I love America and I love love love Baseball. So when I had the chance to go to Denver, meet some internet friends and see Denver, my main priorety was to go to Coors field and see the Colorado Rockies play. This would be my first ever, real baseball game. When I was there I truly enjoyed myself. And I told myself "I am going back to this city and this wonderfull ballpark so help me God" and I also told myself I had to learn more about the surounding erea of Coors field. It looked historic yet very new and fresh. The local person who took me to the games told me that this whole erea had be revitalised from near slum to it's present prestine look thanks to the building and opening (in 1995) of Coors field. So when I got back home and online I wrote down Coors field, Lo Do, Denver and this book came up. I bought it and I could finally read all about the great red brick buildings around Coors Field, what I now call the Temple in Denver, and learn all about the fun little histories behind them. I loved Denver and Coors field. Reading this book made me want to go back and explore even more. Maybe even go back and stay.

A Quick History of Grand Lake
Published in Paperback by Western Reflections Inc (20 September, 1999)
Author: Michael M. Geary
Average review score:

Well Done
This book was a quick reading history of a wonderful area in the south entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park. Anyone visiting Grand Lake should give this a read, well worth the money.

An educated glimpse into the most beautiful place on earth
Having visited Grand Lake several times in my life, I was very pleased to get "A Quick History of Grand Lake" as a gift from my family. In this book, Geary offers historical insight and interesting anecdotes on the Grand Lake region couched within comfortable prose. Yes, it's a quick history - but it's hardly dull. Whether you've visited Grand Lake once or 1,000 times, there's something in this book for you.

Road Biking Colorado: The Statewide Guide
Published in Paperback by Westcliffe Pub (June, 2003)
Author: Michael Seeberg
Average review score:

Pavement not dirt
Finally- a bike guide focused on the pavement not the dirt. Nothing against off road riding, just all the Colorado guides are focussed on trails and dirt even though most riders ride on paved surfaces. Thorough and detailed, I cannot think of a paved ride that isn't included.

Best Colorado Road Bike Guide Book
Michael Seeberg has written an excellent road biking book for all the passes here in Colorado. And the hundreds of color photos are such an excellent source. I have read the book and fully recommend it whether you are a cyclist or not. The infomation and the super pictures are well worth the price. Finally a book with it all! And what a great gift as well.

Strangers to the Law: Gay People on Trial (Law, Meaning and Violence)
Published in Hardcover by University of Michigan Press (August, 1998)
Authors: Lisa Keen and Suzanne B. Goldberg
Average review score:

Interesting, informative and important. A must read book.
I loved this book. A very readable journey through the court case which arose out of Colorado's anti-gay initiative, supported by a clear and descriptive primer on the larger gay rights movement. The pacing was crisp, the writing clear and the story told in a compelling fashion. I highly recommend this book.

Fascinating insights on a major constitutional case
Suzanne Goldberg, the Lambda Legal Defense Fund attorney who worked on Romer v. Evans, and Lisa Keen, the Washington Blade journalist who won an award from the A.B.A. for her news coverage of the case, have collaborated on a truly fascinating "inside baseball" account of the litigation. Particulary useful: their detailed description of the expert testimony offered to the trial court on the issue of "suspect classification" for sexual orientation discrimination analysis. This is a must read for lawyers and legal scholars interested in Romer and gay rights generally.

STYGO
Published in Hardcover by MacMurray & Beck Communication (April, 1994)
Author: Laura Hendrie
Average review score:

A taste of dust
I picked up this book when I noticed a posistive testimonial by Annie Proulx. Laura Hendrie dishes up stark tales of a miniscule, single-industry (sugar beets) Colorado town where dust and snow blow alternately, and people have little to do outside of work besides observe each other and play off their neighbors' mistakes. The book's structure is nine separate but related tales, each building on characters from a previous story. The grittiness of the high plains is palpable in the relentless but subtle style Hendrie uses to convey hard living by people on the fringe of society beyond Stygo. One of these people, Essie Angel, decides she never wants to see any more than the limited view from Stygo after she gets a taste of the making of TV talk shows in the aftermath of her 19-year-old brother's conviction for murder. Stygo is populated with children who stay under furniture or porches and steal candy compulsively. Depressing? Yes, but usefully so -- I am glad to peek safely into the flip points of view of small town life this book gave me, without having to live there. Publishers MacMurray & Beck contributed to a very beautiful and thoughtful presentation with illustrations at the beginning of each story, repeated individually throughout the "chapter."

Engaging and fascinating
This is a WONDERFUL book - amazing insight into the human condition. Everyone should read this!
